Markets
Nearby prices at the crush plants were unchanged to up 25 cents this week. November and December prices are in the range of $18.00-$20.00 per cwt depending on the location. 2025 new crop was unchanged. USDA Risk Management Agency (RMA) Harvest Prices for 2024 revenue insurance policies for sunflowers are out. The harvest price has fallen to where a yield loss or a combination of yield and price could lead to a crop insurance payment this year for some producers. The harvest price per pound for oil-type sunflowers is 22.6 cents with confection sunflowers at 27.3 cents. Spring prices were 23.8 cents for oils and 28.8 cents for confections. It is best to check with your crop insurance agent to see if you are entitled to an indemnity check on this year’s sunflower crop. Sunflower harvest progress was slower after the recent moisture but advanced 18% to 66% complete for the week ending November 3. In the past week, producers harvested an additional 117,000 acres pushing 2024 harvested acres to about 428,000 acres. Harvest progress is 10% ahead the five-year average and 17% ahead last year at this same time.  The weather conditions in the Northern Plains are expected to change to a warmer than normal and drier than normal pattern later in the week. These conditions should allow the remaining harvest to move forward.

Grower report
Langdon, North Dakota grower, Paul Boesl says he finished harvesting sunflower 2 weeks ago. He planted 700 acres, and they were looking great until one weekend of 70 mph winds left half of his crop on the ground that he was unable to harvest. Before the wind he was looking at yields around 3000 lbs. but only ended up with 1200 lbs.
