Grower Report
Lantry, South Dakota grower, Shannon Depoy is halfway done harvesting his sunflowers. He says his yields are averaging about 1600-1800 lbs. with a moisture level of 11.5%. He is hoping to get it under 11. Test weight is running about 30 lbs. The weather has been dry and mild and did not have their first freeze until last week. His stalks are still green, so harvesting is going well with no fire trouble.

Markets
Nearby prices at the crush plants are unchanged to up 50 cents in a range of $19.35-$20.00. Compared to last year at this same time nearby prices are trading $2.75-$3.55 per cwt. higher depending on location. Overall, high oleic prices continue to trade 40 cents to $1.00 per cwt. higher than the 60-day moving average at the crush plants. Crush plants are offering 2025 new crop cash and Act of God (AOG) high oleic contracts at $21.00-$21.50. Something else to consider is the oil premiums that crush plants pay on sunflowers. Sunflower is the only oilseed that pays premiums for oil content above 40%. Considering oil premiums that are offered at the crush plants on oil content above 40% at a rate of 2% price premium for each 1% of oil above 40%; this pushes a contract with 45% oil content gross return 10% higher per cwt. The $21.00 contract increases to $23.10, and the $21.50 contract moves up to $23.65. Very favorable weather conditions in the past week allowed sunflower producers to make good harvest progress. Harvest progress advanced 6% to 72% complete for the week ending November 10. In the past week, producers harvested an additional 38,600 acres pushing 2024 harvested acres to about 467,000 acres. Harvest progress is 11% ahead the five-year average and 17% ahead last year at this same time.  The weather conditions in the Northern Plains are expected to allow the remaining harvest to move forward.
