Markets
Old crop NuSun and High Oleic prices ended the week up 60 to 90 cents at the North Dakota crush plants. Old crop has added $4.55 per cwt. since the beginning of the marketing year. New crop prices added another 40 cents this week. 2021 new crop prices have increased $3.40-$3.70 per cwt. since they first rolled out last fall. At Colorado Mills in Lamar, CO, high oleic old crop, and new crop prices were unchanged this week.  Something else to consider is the oil premiums that crush plants pay on sunflower. Sunflower is the only oilseed that pays premiums for oil content above 40%. Considering oil premiums that are offered at the crush plants on oil content above 40% at a rate of 2% price premium for each 1% of oil above 40%; this pushes a contract with 45% oil content gross return 10% higher per cwt. The AOG $20.95 contract increases to $23.05 and the cash $21.70 contract moves close to $24.00. RMA has announced crop insurance prices for spring crops. Oil-type sunflowers are at $22.00, up 30 percent from last year’s price election. Confection sunflowers are at $27.30, up 21 percent from last year. The crop insurance price for oil-type or confection sunflowers has not been this high since 2013. In general, commodity prices continue to be traded on US export demand and South American harvest delays and production prospects.
