2025 Research Presentations Available Online
If you were not able to attend this year’s NSA Research Forum, you can still learn about the latest sunflower research. Power Point Presentations of all the reports given at the forum can now be found on the NSA website under the “research” tab. Visit https://www.sunflowernsa.com/Research/Research-Forum-PowerPoint-Presentations-Since-2008/2025/ to see this year’s presentations. Researchers from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, North Dakota State University, South Dakota State University, and Texas A&M presented papers and posters on their work. For a historical look, all the presentations dating back to 2008 are available there as well.

Markets
Nearby prices are up $1.00 to $1.25 with 2025 new crop contracts up 25 to 50 cents at the crush plants. Markets were rattled early last week at the prospect of a 25% tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico and a 10% tariff on goods from China. President Donald Trump later agreed to delay them for one month after the leaders of Canada and Mexico announced moves to ramp up security at their borders averting, at least for now, tariffs that could have driven up prices for U.S. consumers and stalled the countries’ economies. The decision to pause plans to impose new tariffs on Canada and Mexico brought some relief to grain markets. However, the U.S. is going ahead with new 10% tariffs on Chinese goods and the European Union is also in Trump's trade crosshairs. Retaliation from China could cause further pain for U.S. farmers, who were hit hard during the trade war in 2018-19. In addition to trade issues, traders are keeping close tabs on South American soybean production prospects. Brazil's 2024/25 soybean crop is expected to reach a record 174 million metric tons (MMT), according to agribusiness consultancy Celeres, citing favorable weather. The firm's latest estimate was a sharp increase over its previous harvest forecast of 170.8 MMT. USDA currently projects Brazil's crop at 169 MMT. USDA will update its production estimates for Brazil and Argentina this week.
