Markets
Sunflower prices followed the price movement on the CBoT and ended the week up 5 to 25 cents at the crush plants.  Sunflower planting is moving along at or ahead of the five-year average in most states. In the Northern Plains, very warm to hot conditions are indicated through the two-week period. The dry weather forecast in the US sunflower production region should allow for normal completion of planting. However, dryness is becoming more of a concern across the region. The NOAA drought forecast for June has drought either developing or persisting in the region. CBoT soybean contracts continue their slide since the USDA raised South America soybean production and increased US 2017/18 soybean carryout. The huge South American crop continues to increase with each new report.  Informa raised world the 2016 soybean crop 2.5 million metric tons (MMT). They raised Brazil to 114.5 MMT and Argentina to 58 MMT. Some market analysts have increased their Brazil soybean production to 115 MMT. The Brazilian Ag Minister estimated the 2017-18 soybean planted area to increase 2% to 3% next season. The slowdown in Chinese buying has also been weighing on prices. Overall large global supplies remain an anchor on oilseed prices. Weather and planting progress will remain the top mind for traders in the week ahead.
